Online Professional Development for Teachers

With new pedagogy and technologies emerging nearly everyday, it's challenging for teachers keep up with the latest trends. Many educators don't have the time nor the resources to attend conferences or take courses yet many academic institutions place considerable emphasis on professional development in order to ensure faculty are staying on top of current methods.

Fortunately, it's never been easier to participate in a variety of professional development activities via the Internet - all from the comfort of your own chair and when it's convenient for you. Some professional development resources have been available on the Web for many years, such as online journals and listservs. However, the recent advent of Web 2.0 has allowed for the development of innovative ways for educators. These include blogs, wikis, Webquests, video tutorials and lectures and social networking.
